Baht text and BE/CE FAQ

What is baht text (BAHTTEXT)?

It is an amount written out in Thai words: 1,234.50 becomes หนึ่งพันสองร้อยสามสิบสี่บาทห้าสิบสตางค์. It is used on receipts, tax invoices, quotations and cheques so figures cannot be quietly altered. Excel’s BAHTTEXT function does the same; this tool gives the same wording without opening Excel.

How do whole-baht amounts end?

Amounts with no satang end with ถ้วน (“exactly”): 100 is หนึ่งร้อยบาทถ้วน. With satang, the satang are read after the baht and ถ้วน is dropped: 100.25 is หนึ่งร้อยบาทยี่สิบห้าสตางค์. An amount below one baht such as 0.50 reads ห้าสิบสตางค์.

When is 1 read as เอ็ด and 20 as ยี่สิบ?

A units digit 1 is read เอ็ด when there is a higher place: 11 สิบเอ็ด, 21 ยี่สิบเอ็ด, 101 หนึ่งร้อยเอ็ด, 1,001 หนึ่งพันเอ็ด. A lone 1 is หนึ่ง. A 2 in the tens place is ยี่ (20 ยี่สิบ, 22 ยี่สิบสอง), and 10 is สิบ, not หนึ่งสิบ.

How are millions of millions read?

Every six digits start a new ล้าน group: 1,000,000 is หนึ่งล้าน, 10^12 is หนึ่งล้านล้าน and 10^18 is หนึ่งล้านล้านล้าน. Numbers up to 33 digits are supported.

What happens with more than two decimals?

Satang are rounded to 2 decimals, half away from zero: 1.005 gives หนึ่งบาทหนึ่งสตางค์ and 0.995 gives หนึ่งบาทถ้วน. Negative amounts start with ลบ.

Can I get the amount in English for a bilingual invoice?

Yes. The English output gives text such as One Thousand Two Hundred Thirty-Four Baht and Fifty Satang Only. Pick baht or US dollars and the letter case, then copy it.

How do I convert Buddhist Era (พ.ศ.) to Christian Era (ค.ศ.)?

BE = CE + 543, so 2026 CE is 2569 BE and 2568 BE is 2025 CE. Enter a day, month and year and choose whether the year is BE or CE. You get both years, the Thai long date such as วันจันทร์ที่ 29 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2568, and numeric dates. Leap years are checked and impossible dates such as 30 February are flagged.

Is what I type sent anywhere?

No. Everything converts in your browser as you type. Numbers, text and dates are not sent to a server. The tool also converts Thai digits ๐-๙ to Arabic digits 0-9 and back.
